Committed to Growing the Community
Over the past three years, we have orchestrated an annual festive season extravaganza for the Kenmaid Youth Development Program in Facreton, a heartwarming event that has left an indelible mark on our community. Our commitment to spreading joy and creating lasting memories is evident in the meticulous planning of Santa shoeboxes filled with gifts, an unforgettable party, sumptuous meals, and a myriad of activities—all dedicated to approximately 300 underprivileged kids.
Then, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed a profound realization our community needed us more than ever. Seizing this awareness, I aligned myself with a local organization, initially focused on distributing food. However, the need proved to be far-reaching, prompting me to forge partnerships with three feeding schemes in Tafelsig, Steenberg, and Bonteheuwel. Together, we rallied to provide sustenance to those relying on these vital programs.
Fast forward to 2022 and the present day, our dedication persists as we distribute bread every Thursday within our local community, addressing the ongoing need for basic sustenance. In 2018, I took an active role in the Salt River Celtic FC, a local community club, initially as a coach and later assuming a position on the executive board. This involvement serves a dual purpose: coaching young minds in the area and steering them away from the perils of street life. To this day, I remain an integral part of the soccer club, nurturing the potential of our youth through the beautiful game.
Our commitment extends beyond the festive season, as we respond to the continuous call for support. Throughout the year, we diligently assemble and distribute food parcels whenever funding becomes available. In 2022, we extended our helping hand to a family in Bonteheuwel, offering assistance in fixing their wendy house — a testament to our unwavering dedication to uplifting our community.
These initiatives, fueled by a passion for community upliftment, have become a cornerstone of our commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. As we forge ahead, our resolve remains unyielding, and we eagerly anticipate further opportunities to contribute positively to the well-being of our community.
