About Us

In the midst of economic challenges and a lack of tertiary education, I found myself unexpectedly retrenched from a stable job. Struggling to secure employment for a year or two, I eventually landed a sales position for a company—a role I initially dreaded. However, as time passed, the job grew on me, steering me towards the path of entrepreneurship. After two years in sales, I realized the allure of flexibility and self-direction, prompting me to break away from conventional employment. In 2014, I leaped to start my own business. Originating from a disadvantaged background, the journey was not without its hurdles, but each obstacle became a stepping stone for growth. By 2016, inspired by the lessons learned, I officially registered the business and rebranded it as The Cape Issue, marking a significant milestone in my entrepreneurial journey.

Through our business, we have successfully cultivated relationships with loyal clients and achieved recognition for our publications, including magazines, calendars, and other advertising products, making us a household name in Cape Town. While tirelessly working towards the success of our business, another shared passion is our involvement in community upliftment and charity projects across various Cape Town communities. It has always been a lifelong dream for us to continue making a positive impact for as long as we are able, especially in the lives of the youth within our communities. Fast forward 7 years, overcoming the challenges posed by COVID-19, and with the blessings of the Almighty, we are still going strong. To empower ourselves and the business, we have collectively taken the opportunity to enroll in an entrepreneurship course at Stellenbosch Business School and are currently pursuing a three-year program through the City of Cape Town Entrepreneurship Programme. This endeavor equips us with the necessary knowledge and skills to fuel both personal and business growth, aligning with our goals for the future. As part of this journey, we’ve learned valuable lessons, such as the dual nature of people who can be both your best friend and your worst enemy simultaneously. We’ve experienced the challenges associated with owning a business, often facing misconceptions like the automatic assumption that business owners have ample financial resources. However, not everyone sees the sacrifices, long hours, and discipline required to ensure the survival and success of the business—a shared commitment that drives us all. Despite encountering challenges, we have met numerous individuals through our business, some of whom have turned into cherished friends providing support in times of need. Conversely, we’ve also faced the reality of family and friends who may not fully support us but seek discounts or free services without realizing the financial obligations and targets we must meet. We believe that emerging entrepreneurs, like us, simply need the opportunity to showcase our skills and the quality of our work to secure the breakthrough necessary to elevate our business to the next level. This, in turn, enables us to extend our support to more people within our community. As we navigate the highs and lows, we consistently turn to prayer for guidance and strength. In conclusion, we emphasize that success isn’t solely about chasing money; it’s about building networks and friendships. We firmly believe that, with a focus on genuine connections, financial success will naturally follow.
